The latest data from UNAIDS shows that the overall prevalence of HIV is either remaining steady or decreasing across the continent while the incidence of new infections is, on the whole, in decline. The use of anti-retroviral medication is now well established, although some countries are delivering it more extensively than others

I sort of wish these kind of stats were not made that much public…do they honestly help the cause. Positive news it is indeed but who are are we kidding here millions are still dying.
Scare people more and don’t massage them and tell them the problem is going away.
The problem is here and still very real

This forum is for a discerning audience, and not intended to lure the masses into a false sense of security. If anything it is an encouragement to those who are attempting to make an effort that they are not labouring to no avail. Facts are facts, we can’t be ignorant of the truth.

The truth is a funny thing. I find aspencer’s comment of ignorance ironic, but take the point that it can encourage NGOs. It could however be dangerous if taken out of context. The harsh realities of Aids in Africa is something we can’t be blind to- perhaps that’s all k_frimpong was warning against.
