Cultural exchanges

As part of the revitalisation of its cultural programme, the Commonwealth Foundation will also be focusing on the following initiatives.

Culture and Conflict

Working in partnership with the Prince Claus Foundation, a Dutch organisation focused on cultural collaboration, this programme is part of a three-year initiative designed to highlight the role of culture as a way of engaging with communities in countries that have undergone conflict. The Commonwealth Foundation will develop and support four projects on the ground in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Rwanda and Zimbabwe, which will address issues of peace and reconciliation through cultural initiatives.

Each project will work closely with a researcher who will analyse the outcomes in order to contribute to the wider debate about the role of culture in society.

Commonwealth Shorts

The Commonwealth Foundation is inviting individuals or groups of filmmakers from across the Commonwealth to make a short film on the theme of relationships. It is looking for imaginative, lateral and controversial ideas for a thought-provoking film about love – whether inter-racial, inter-generational, within or between the sexes. It can be a drama or a documentary. The resulting films will be shown locally and globally to stimulate and encourage debate around the issues raised. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2012.
