Iconic Nigerian photographer remembered

February saw the passing of J. D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere, a Nigerian photographer best-known for a series of photographs depicting Nigerian hairstyles. With a prestigious career spanning more than 60 years, Ojeikere – who died at the age of 83 – was able to document the construction of some of Lagos’ most iconic buildings. His collection includes several photos of ant hills, which he referred to as ‘the first skyscrapers’.
