Based on recommendations made by Commonwealth Heads of Government in Perth last October, the Commonwealth Foundation is planning to re-launch on 1 November with a revised mandate to ‘effectively deliver the objectives of strengthening and mobilising civil society in support of Commonwealth principles and priorities.’ According to the Foundation’s director, Vijay Krishnarayan, the new four-year strategy strives for more effective and accountable governance through participation with civil society. The Foundation views the Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting, to be held in June in Bangladesh, as an ideal opportunity to strengthen ties with civil society organisations on issues of gender equality and rights.
